Google Business Profile in Qatar: A Step-by-Step Setup and Optimisation Guide

How to set up and optimise a Google Business Profile in Qatar so customers in Doha and beyond find you on Google Search and Maps. A practical, free checklist.

By Beyond Line · · 3 min read

When someone in Doha searches for “accountant near me”, “AC repair Al Wakrah” or “interior designer Qatar”, they may see local business listings alongside other results. Google Business Profile lets eligible businesses share accurate local information on Search and Maps.

Why it matters for Qatar businesses

  • It puts you on Google Search and Google Maps for local searches.
  • Customers can use available contact, website and directions options; features vary by profile and location.
  • Reviews, photos and opening hours help people choose you before they ever click.

Before setup: check eligibility

Google’s eligibility rules require in-person contact with customers during stated hours and exclude online-only businesses. A genuine service-area business that visits customers may qualify; a remote-only business does not qualify just because it serves Qatar. Check the current guidelines before creating a listing.

Step 1: Claim or create the profile

Go to the Google Business Profile page, sign in with a business Google account (not a personal one you might lose access to), and search for your business name. If it already exists, request access; if not, create it.

Use your exact trading name. Do not add keywords or city names to the business name. That breaks Google’s guidelines and can get the profile suspended.

Step 2: Choose the right categories

Your primary category has a large effect on which searches you appear for. Pick the most specific category that describes your core business, then add a small number of accurate secondary categories. Look at which categories well-ranked competitors in your area use.

Step 3: Get location and service areas right

  • If customers visit you, add your full address and check the map pin is exactly right. Qatar addresses often need the building, street and zone numbers to be correct.
  • If you visit customers and do not receive them at your premises, use the appropriate service-area settings (for example Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Lusail) and hide the address. A business that both receives customers at a genuine staffed location and visits them may use a storefront address and service area when it meets Google’s guidelines; do not hide every address simply because the business travels to customers.

Step 4: Complete every field

  • Phone: a number that is answered during business hours. Use WhatsApp only if that option is available for your profile and the account is monitored.
  • Website: link to the most relevant page, not always the homepage.
  • Hours: include Friday and holiday hours, and update them for Ramadan and Eid.
  • Description: plain English that explains what you do, who for and where. Avoid keyword stuffing.
  • Services or products: list them with short descriptions.

Step 5: Add real photos

Upload genuine photos of your premises, team, work and products. Real photos build trust far more than stock images. Add new ones regularly.

Step 6: Build a review habit

Reviews can help customers evaluate a business. Invite customers to share honest feedback without selecting only those expected to be positive, share a direct review link, and reply politely without exposing customer information. Never buy reviews or offer incentives for them.

Step 7: Keep it active

  • Post updates, offers or news occasionally.
  • Respond to customer questions through the features available to your profile.
  • Review the performance information available in your dashboard. Metrics and contact features vary by profile and location; relate available activity to received enquiries rather than assuming a fixed set of measures.

Connect it to your website

Your profile and website should reinforce each other. Make sure your website shows the same name, phone and location, has a page for each core service, and works well on mobile. Use the local SEO checklist to review the wider profile, website and enquiry path together.

Frequently asked questions

Is Google Business Profile free?

Yes. Creating and managing a Google Business Profile is free. Be cautious of anyone charging for a 'guaranteed' listing or ranking.

Can I have a profile without a shop or office customers visit?

Eligible service-area businesses that visit customers in person can hide their address and list the areas they serve. Online-only businesses are ineligible; simply choosing a service area does not establish eligibility.

How long does verification take?

It varies by business and method. Google may verify by phone, email, video or postcard. Follow the options shown in your profile dashboard.
